About Katherine Schmidt

Katherine Schmidt is a Registered Psychotherapist and member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology at Western University in London and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology at the University of Guelph.

Katherine completed her internship at King’s University College where she helped individuals struggling with stress, depression, anxiety, anger management, depression, grief, and relationship issues. There she co-facilitating depression and mindfulness groups in addition to grief support groups at St. Joseph’s Hospice in London. Prior to her internship, Katherine gained valuable experience volunteering as a crisis line worker on the SPECTRA helpline in Brampton.

In addition to her work at MyLife Counselling, Katherine is a sought after therapist at Advance Health Psychological Services in Toronto. She’s helped countless people struggling with anxiety, relationship issues, work stress, work/life balance, burnout, self-care and boundary setting.

Katherine draws not only from her professional experience, but also from her personal experience as a client overcoming her anxiety from multiple car accidents. She appreciates how opening up about your struggles and facing your anxiety can be scary at first. Katherine has an amazing ability to help her clients feel at ease, heard, and understood. Her friendly and warm personality helps her clients feel accepted no matter what their issues are.

Katherine is highly skilled in a variety of counselling approaches with a special focus on mindfulness based practices such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. These approaches are powerful ways of dealing with overwhelming emotions such as anxiety and, rather than obsessing or avoiding them, finding ways to experience and move past them. Katherine also draws from her affinity with nature and love of animals by helping her clients discover peace-of-mind through their own spiritual relationship to nature.
