About Emily McTier

Emily McTier is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) #17763. She completed her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and her undergraduate degree in Applied Science – Child, Youth, and Families at the University of Guelph. Emily was invited to join the MyLife team after demonstrating tremendous skill, care, and dedication while working with clients during our intensive internship program.

Children and Youth (11+)

Emily is passionate about supporting children and adolescents aged 11 and older. She connects quickly with kiddos thanks to her friendly, playful, and down-to-earth approach. With years of experience providing therapy for children diagnosed with autism at KidsAbility, she understands the challenges kids may face such as bullying, family changes like divorce, anxiety, negative body image, ADHD, and neurodivergence. Emily helps her younger clients feel safe enough to talk while developing crucial coping skills for emotional regulation, effective communication, and enhanced self-esteem. She believes in empowering her younger clients to reach their full potential by nurturing their self-confidence and resilience. She actively collaborates with parents and caregivers whenever possible to support their children’s progress in skills, relationships, and overall mental health.

Adults & Post-Secondary Students

Emily also has extensive experience supporting young adults, particularly those navigating the demanding transitions and pressures of college and university life. She understands the challenges such as academic stress, performance anxiety, wavering motivation, feelings of overwhelm, identity exploration, and managing evolving relationships. Emily creates a safe, non-judgmental space where these issues and other life transitions can be explored. She combines practical coping strategies with genuine empathy, helping clients regain confidence, foster resilience, and find pathways to thrive both academically and personally during this significant life stage.

Body Image & Self-Esteem

Emily understands that struggling with body image can deeply impact people’s self-esteem and overall well-being at any age. People may feel disconnected from their bodies or constantly judge themselves based on unrealistic standards. Emily helps her clients explore the root causes of negative thoughts and emotions surrounding appearance. Her goal is to help people develop a healthier, more compassionate relationship with their body—embracing its uniqueness and learning to appreciate themselves beyond just physical appearance. Through therapy, she supports clients in building lasting confidence, self-acceptance, and a balanced image of themselves that aligns with their core values.

Personal Background

Emily is at her own best when she’s living a well-rounded healthy lifestyle. Outside of the therapy office you can find her taking part in fitness classes, hiking, and spending time with loved ones.
