About Andre Campbell

Andre is an intern therapist under the supervision of Clinical Director Mark Nixon, and is working toward completing his Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.

He came to this work through his own transitions — leaving home young and rebuilding a sense of himself after initially planning a career in competitive sport. Although he switched to psychology, what stayed with him was being the person teammates leaned on through setbacks and hard stretches — the same role, he’d come to realize, that he now plays with his clients. That interest in how people grow — more than in how they compete — took him into three years of clinical psychological research at the University of Guelph on human development, and into executive functioning programs for young folks with ADHD through the Learning Disabilities Association of Wellington County.

Andre is collaborative, relaxed, and direct, and not afraid to challenge you. He is deeply committed to supporting you when you’re exhausted from managing anxiety and panic on your own, feeling lost in the messy transition between school and career, or quietly questioning your relationship with drugs and alcohol.

Andre believes life is a lot like improving a golf swing: you can only change the parts you’ve slowed down enough to see. Learn more about how Andre can turn that awareness into change.

Anxiety and the Pressure of Modern Life

Anxiety doesn’t always look like anxiety. It looks like refreshing your phone at 1 a.m., replaying a conversation from three days ago, comparing your progress to people you barely know, and calling it motivation. It looks like perfectionism, procrastination, and the low-grade dread that you’re falling behind on a schedule nobody actually gave you.

Andre helps you understand what’s driving it — the comparison, the pressure to have it figured out, the fear of being seen as behind — and build ways of responding that don’t cost you your sleep, your relationships, or your sense of yourself.

Panic Attacks

A panic attack can convince you that you’re dying, losing control, or losing your mind. Afterward comes the second problem: the fear of the next one. You start avoiding the highway, the gym, the meeting, the party — and your world gets smaller.

Andre understands how frightening panic is, from professional training and from personal experience. Therapy with him works on both fronts: practical strategies to interrupt panic and bring your nervous system down, and the deeper work of understanding why panic showed up in your life when it did. Managing it matters. Understanding it is what makes the change hold.

Life Transitions: School, Career, and Who You’re Becoming

Every transition asks the same question in a different form: who am I now?

Starting university. Finishing it and realizing the structure that organized your last four years is gone. Landing the first real job and finding it doesn’t feel the way you expected. Moving out, moving back, moving away from friends. Stepping back from a sport or an identity you’ve had since you were a kid.

Andre knows this territory personally — leaving home young, and rebuilding a sense of self after competitive sport. He helps you get clear on what actually matters to you, so you’re making decisions on purpose instead of drifting toward whatever’s expected.

Questioning Your Substance Use

Maybe you’re not asking whether you have a problem. You’re asking a quieter question: is this still working for me?

The drinks that take the edge off after work. The weed that’s become the only way you fall asleep. The coke on weekends that started as a social thing. You don’t have to have hit a crisis, put a label on it, or commit to quitting to talk about it.

Andre offers a straightforward, non-judgmental space to look at what substances are doing for you — what they’re solving, what they’re costing, and what you’d want instead. You set the goal. He’ll help you get honest about the picture first.

Personal Background

Andre grew up playing golf, hockey and baseball. To this day, while sports still provide him with a sense of grounding and belonging, his focus has shifted toward life’s bigger questions of meaning and purpose. You’ll find him exploring these ideas through the works of Viktor Frankl, though he is just as eager to dive into the mythological adventures of Percy Jackson. When the workday ends, his ideal downtime involves kicking back with his partner of five years to binge-watch a great psychological thriller.
