About Peter Gibson

Peter is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) completing his clinical practicum at MyLife under the supervision of our Clinical Co-Director Eve Tesluk as part of his Master’s in Clinical Counselling at Tyndale University.

Peter’s journey into psychotherapy is rooted in a career dedicated to empowering individuals to reach their peak potential.  Before shifting his focus to therapy, he served as a director of a large sports resort. While overseeing operations was part of the job, his real passion was people development—he took great pride in coaching his staff to exceed their own expectations and grow into confident leaders.

Peter also gained valuable experience as a Leadership Coach with the charity LiveDifferent. He focused on promoting student mental health by coaching students in developing their own school programming and mentorship opportunities.

These experiences revealed a core truth to Peter: sustainable success requires internal well-being. Now, he applies that strategic mindset to therapy, helping his clients cut through the noise and tackle life’s challenges with a clear, actionable game plan in their career, academics, or personal life.

Navigating Work Stress & Performance

Do you feel like you are constantly “on,” yet secretly fear you will be found out as a fraud? Imposter syndrome, performance anxiety, and work stress can rapidly drain your motivation, turning a career you once loved into a source of dread. Peter understands the pressure to perform. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), he helps you identify and change the rigid thought patterns fuelling your anxiety. This approach equips you with practical tools to shut down the inner critic, regain your confidence and sense of direction, and establish a work-life balance that actually works.

Tackling Anger & Self-Confidence

For many, frustration often shows up as anger or a lack of self-confidence that keeps you on the sidelines of your own life. It can show up as shutting down emotionally when your partner asks how you are or avoiding social events because you feel like you don’t measure up to your peers. At work you might notice it when you snap at a colleague over a minor error, or when self-doubt keeps you silent during meetings or in class where you know your voice matters. Peter helps you break this cycle by teaching you to catch the automatic thoughts that trigger rage, challenge the inner narrative that erodes your self-worth, and develop concrete strategies to thrive under pressure.

Overcoming Loneliness & Building Bonds

From a young age, you may have been told that real strength means handling every problem on your own, but this ‘lone wolf’ mentality frequently leads to profound isolation, even when you are surrounded by people. You might have plenty of acquaintances but few people who truly know you. Peter helps you dismantle the belief that vulnerability equals weakness. By rewriting this internal script, you can build the courage to let others in, transforming superficial interactions into the deep, supportive bonds you crave with friends and family.

Personal Background

Peter’s roots are in Ireland, but his heart is in Canada. After arriving in 2014 for a work opportunity, the strong sense of community he forged led him to permanently relocate in 2019. Now married and settled, he visits Ireland regularly to reconnect with family and capture the ocean landscapes using his vintage film cameras. For Peter, this is a reminder of the importance of staying connected to what matters during busy seasons of life.

Peter also knows firsthand that having a physical outlet is key to managing life’s pressures; you might find him road cycling, cheering on his favourite football club (Liverpool), or catching an indie-folk concert (he is a big Mumford & Sons fan). At home, he unwinds with his wife and their dog, Max, a Lab-Retriever cross.
