About Melissa Malcolm

Melissa is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She completed her Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and her undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo in Honours Psychology. She went on to complete her internship at MyLife Counselling under the supervision of our Clinical Director Mark Nixon. We insisted Melissa join MyLife as a full team member after seeing her extraordinary results with clients and the positive feedback she received.

Melissa brings extensive personal and mental health experience helping adults and youth (14+) from all walks of life. She loves working with individuals, couples, and families on improving relationships, wellbeing, and healing from trauma. In addition to her work at MyLife, Melissa has gained invaluable experience as a therapist with Willowbridge Community Services and Valley Centre for Counselling in Dundas helping people cope with anxiety, stress, and emotion regulation.

Melissa previously worked at Homewood Health in Guelph where she helped a variety of individuals seeking counselling and support for relationships, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Melissa also volunteered at the Grand River Hospital Inpatient Mental Health unit where she worked closely with a team of healthcare professionals and facilitated recreation programs in support of patients and their families. As a person living with a chronic illness, she also draws from her personal experience in helping people balance their emotional and physical health.

Melissa has a warm, friendly, and inviting presence that puts her clients at ease. Not only is she extremely empathetic, but she is also an avid learner and has received up-to-date training in the latest evidence-based treatments such as Level 1 Cognitive Behavioural Therapy through Wilfrid Laurier University, Cognitive Processing Therapy Training through the Medical University of South Carolina, and Level 1 Training in Gottman Methods Couples Therapy.

Outside of the office, Melissa enjoys teaching swimming lessons to people of all ages and abilities as a swim instructor. In her free time, she also enjoys playing Ringette and spending time with her family and partner.
