About Katelyn MacKay
Katelyn is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) #17254 and a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She earned her Master’s degree in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Katelyn is continually honoured and humbled by the opportunity to sit with clients in their vulnerable moments. Sometimes, individuals may feel stuck or believe they could benefit from additional support. Therapy offers a chance to be heard, acknowledge feelings, and strive for positive changes in life. Making the decision to seek counselling can be daunting yet being understood serves as a grounding force in one’s own truths, bodies, and experiences, facilitating authenticity in navigating life.
Katelyn believes that authenticity thrives in an environment where individuals can openly and honestly express themselves, surrounded by support and safety. In her practice, clients can expect ample space to fully explore their truths. She is dedicated to fostering a non-judgmental atmosphere where people of diverse gender, sexual, cultural, and spiritual identities feel embraced. Her therapeutic approach is client-centered and integrative, drawing from various modalities such as narrative therapy, internal family systems (IFS), queer theory, grief therapy, CBT, DBT, and incorporating a somatic approach. She views therapy as a collaborative endeavour, working together towards positive change in the client’s life, fostering a sense of freedom, joy, and safety to be one’s authentic self.
As a queer person, Katelyn enjoys collaborating with queer individuals as they make sense of their experiences and navigate societal structures and systems. She also gravitates towards clients who seek to work through feelings of rejection, abandonment, or shame, inviting them to explore their inner world with deep compassion and curiosity. Katelyn enjoys working with issues of attachment and trauma, which includes creating an empathetic space for the adult children of alcoholics to safely explore their experience.
Katelyn holds the belief that positive change is possible, as someone who has both experienced it and has witnessed it occur many times, and as such she often holds hope for her clients until they feel ready to hold it for themselves. Often, these changes can come from clients experiencing an increase of awareness of their emotional experience, which leads to them being able to respond compassionately to themselves and communicate effectively with those around them.
Outside the office, you can find Katelyn sunbathing with her cats, introducing herself to every dog in the neighbourhood, indulging in fiction, thrift shopping, embarking on creative projects, and creating cherished memories with friends and family.
