About Emily Markes
Emily Tibljas is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and earned her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. She completed her internship with MyLife counselling under the Supervision of our Clinical Manager Emily Hansen.
Emily completed her BA in Psychology from the University of Guelph, then went on to complete a post graduate certificate in Addictions and Mental Health from Humber College. She is passionate about helping people find balance in their overall life and wellbeing. By working from a person-centred and empathic approach, Emily helps clients feel safe to discover and be their authentic self throughout each meeting.
Emily began working in the field with Canadian Addiction Treatment Centres, and then continued on to Stonehenge Therapeutic Community. She supported individuals to make changes to their substance use, meet their goals, and develop productive coping strategies.
With experience supporting folks from all walks of life, Emily looks forward to working with young adults and adults across a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, substance use, stress management and emotion regulation, and any life transitions.
Cannabis use has become more accessible and accepted which can lead to uncertainties around habits and complicated emotions. Emily helps clients gain an understanding of their cannabis (or other) substance use, empowers them to determine the goals they want to achieve, and walks alongside clients as they begin their journey towards change.
Emily is also ready to help you through challenging life transitions. Whether a relationship has ended or just begun, or a new chapter of your life is approaching, Emily strives to help clients stay grounded in their values to ensure they feel confident and supported in whichever direction they choose to take. She uses a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach throughout her work to create meaningful and positive connections with each of her clients.
Emily honours the unique perspective each individual brings into the space and draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Mindfulness and Solution-Focused Therapy to provide individualized support for every client. She demonstrates authenticity and compassion, and values fostering a strong therapeutic relationship. Emily understands how difficult it can be to talk about how you’re feeling and she strives to create a safe, nonjudgemental space for anyone she works with.
Outside of the office, Emily is likely spending time outdoors, drinking coffee with her partner of 7 years, accompanied by their 3 dogs. Other activities she values include yoga, candle-making, and spending time with her family and friends.
