About Avery Cyr

We’re excited to welcome Avery Cyr as our latest therapist to join the MyLife team! She’s now available Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings from 12 to 7pm. Learn more about Avery below!

Avery is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Avery received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Guelph, receiving a letter of permission to complete an undergraduate thesis at Western University researching special topics in human sexuality. From there, Avery went on to complete advanced training in Art Therapy at the Toronto Art Therapy Institute. Avery’s research focused on Polyvagal Theory and Art Therapy in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Symptoms.

Avery has a wide range of placement experiences working with diverse populations including refugees and emerging populations at Flemingdon Health Center and survivors of gendered violence at the YWCA in Toronto. She also created trauma-informed programming for youth living in residential services at Hatts Off Inc.

Due to her personal experiences, Avery is passionate about working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic symptoms, ADHD and Traumatic Brain Injury. As a Queer-identifying person, Avery is dedicated to creating safe spaces for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks. Avery’s approach draws from various modalities but is first an embodied somatic approach focusing on emotional regulation, helping clients to gain more balance in their lives. In sessions you may be guided through various mindfulness and grounding exercises to support you in developing a deeper relationship with yourself and your nervous system.

Avery takes a holistic, co-creative approach honouring mind, body and spirit. Often times, we cannot simply talk our way out of trauma, anxiety or depression. It can deeply impact our relationships with self and other and keep us feeling stuck. Avery’s goal is to provide a safe space to explore parts of self with curiosity, compassion and acceptance so that individuals can move out of feeling stuck and into experiencing more flow in their lives and relationships. She believes that you are the expert on you and will work with you to discover your inner-strengths, -wisdom and -resources so that you feel empowered on your healing journey.

Avery’s work is grounded in an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, integrative and client-centered approach. She completed additional training in Integrative Somatic Parts Work (Level 1) which combines aspects of Internal Family Systems and Somatic Experiencing as well as Cornelia Elbrecht’s Guided Drawing for Trauma Healing which combines aspects of Somatic Experiencing and EMDR.

When she’s not in the office, you can find Avery exploring nature, attending yoga classes, creating art, dancing, reading or spending time with her two cats, friends and family.
