Alia Ziesman is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) #13220 and member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Guelph in addition to her Master’s in International Development and Sociology. Alia went on to complete her second Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University. Alia has 15 years of volunteer experience working with diverse populations within her community. Since 2012, she has served on the Leadership Council for the Guelph-Wellington Local Immigration Partnership and has previously volunteered with Women in Crisis, United Way, and Immigrant Services.
While living abroad for several years, Alia realized her passion for social justice was rooted in helping the individual. This understanding led her to pursue a career as a psychotherapist. As someone who has attended therapy for more than 20+ years, she knows it is challenging to be vulnerable with another person. As a mother, she also understands the challenges and changes of becoming of a parent which has inspired her to help other women through pregnancy, postpartum, and all steps of motherhood. Drawing from her own experience with traumatic loss, she will met you where you are and guide you through your own grief. Regardless of the issue, Alia will always provide you with a non-judgmental, trustworthy, supportive, and professional space where you can be yourself.
Alia can help you identify and better understand your thoughts, experiences, and relationships to help you feel more empowered and live your fullest life. Through mindfulness, she’s able to help you get out of your head and into the present moment, which can help you worry less and appreciate the little moments in life. You will also laugh, as Alia doesn’t believe therapy always has to be serious! Her integrative approach combines four modalities: person-centred, narrative therapy, attachment theory, and strengths-based to ensure you receive personalized care.
Alia is also passionate about helping couples who are struggling with conflict, communication, connection, and intimacy. Her specialized training in couples counselling means she is able to provide you with the guidance and direction you need to start understanding each other, increase your sense of intimacy, and re-establish any trust that may been lost in your relationship.
Alia views life as an ocean with waves that rise and fall and believes we all need support during these ebbs and flows. With time, patience, and dedication, therapy can be a powerful experience. Alia looks forward to working with you.
